About DecisionNext
Our proprietary SaaS platform combines sophisticated AI with expert human judgment to significantly outperform traditional approaches to commodity transaction decision-making. We serve major customers in food, agriculture, and natural resources industries—companies making complex decisions with real financial impact.
We’re in a steep growth phase, which means what you build now will shape how we scale. Your infrastructure decisions will matter.
What You’ll Build
DecisionNext’s AI-powered forecasting platform serves major players in food, agriculture, and natural resources—processing massive datasets, running sophisticated simulations, and delivering insights that drive million-dollar commodity decisions. Behind this? Infrastructure that needs to be bulletproof, scalable, and elegant.
We’re looking for a senior-level Systems Engineer (Cloud/DevOps) who gets excited about architectural challenges that matter. Someone who sees AWS infrastructure not as a checklist of services, but as a puzzle worth solving well.
The Challenges You’ll Tackle
Building Resilience at Scale
- You’ll architect and evolve infrastructure supporting a SaaS platform where downtime isn’t just inconvenient—it affects real business decisions. Think immutable infrastructure patterns, multi-region considerations, and the kind of observability that lets you sleep at night.
- What you’ll work with: EC2, ECS/Fargate, Lambda, RDS/PostgreSQL, ElastiCache/Valkey, MongoDB, and the full AWS stack—but more importantly, you’ll have the autonomy to improve how we use them.
Solving the Interesting Problems
- How do you test infrastructure changes safely when “just try it and see” isn’t an option? (Hint: we’re thinking moto or similar for plan/apply interception)
- What does truly immutable infrastructure look like when you need to move fast but never break things?
- How do you build observability that’s actually useful, not just noisy?
You’ll work with Docker, Terraform, cdktf, Python, and shell scripting—but we’re more interested in how you think about systems than which specific tools you’ve memorized.
Making Security Real (Not Just Compliant)
- We take SOC 2 Type II seriously—not as a checkbox exercise, but as a forcing function to build things right. You’ll participate in audit prep and fieldwork, but more importantly, you’ll help shape security practices that actually improve our systems rather than just generating paperwork.
Continuous Improvement That Actually Happens
- We’re not looking for someone to maintain what exists. We’re looking for someone who sees a build pipeline and thinks “I could make this faster,” or spots a monitoring gap and fixes it before it becomes a problem.
What Makes You Right for This
You’ve done this before—not just “worked with AWS,” but architected production systems that handle real load and real consequences. You’ve debugged the 3am incidents, optimized the surprisingly expensive RDS configs, and built automation that your team actually uses.
You probably have:
- Deep AWS expertise with the battle scars to prove it
- Strong skills in Docker, Linux administration, Python, Terraform/CDK, and shell scripting
- Real experience with PostgreSQL, Redis/key-value stores, and MongoDB in production
- A track record of building observability solutions that matter
- Professional AWS certifications (nice to have, but we care more about what you can do)
We’d be especially excited if you also have:
- Experience with HPC or distributed computing frameworks
- Background in statistical computing or high-level mathematics
- That rare ability to explain complex technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
What You’ll Gain
Intellectual Challenge
This isn’t infrastructure for a CRUD app. You’ll support Monte Carlo simulations, econometric models, optimization algorithms, and automated back-testing—the kind of workloads that make you think differently about performance and scale.
Real Autonomy
We need someone who can identify what needs fixing and fix it, not wait for permission. You’ll have the authority to make architectural decisions and the responsibility to make them well.
Financial Recognition
- Base salary: $150,000–$170,000
- Equity: Share in our long-term success
- Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
- Time off: Unlimited PTO (yes, we actually mean it)
Work-Life Integration
Fully remote. Build your ideal work environment. We care about results and collaboration, not surveillance.
What Success Looks Like
In your first six months, you’ll have:
- Identified and resolved at least three infrastructure pain points we didn’t know we had
- Improved our observability or automation in ways the team can point to
- Contributed meaningfully to our SOC 2 practices
- Earned the trust of engineers who rely on the platform you maintain
In your first year, you’ll have:
- Architected at least one significant infrastructure improvement
- Become the go-to person for specific areas of our stack
- Helped us scale more efficiently than we could have without you
How to Apply
Think this sounds like the challenge you’ve been looking for? In your application, tell us:
- What’s the most interesting infrastructure problem you’ve solved? (We want to hear the real story, not the LinkedIn version)
- What caught your attention about this role?
