Who we are: DecisionNext (DN) is a rapidly growing software company that uses analytics to help food, natural resources, and chemical companies make better sales, purchasing, and operations decisions. DN is a fully-remote company with staff located across the continental U.S.
Position Overview: We are looking for an individual to serve as an Economist within the Science division at DN. Economists in this position comprehensively understand commodity markets and statistical techniques while possessing an ability to communicate those perspectives to customers of all backgrounds.
What you’ll do:
- Develop commodity market expertise through statistical or econometric modeling techniques.
- Translate model results into implementable customer solutions.
- Craft original written content targeted at internal teams and external customers
- Support customers’ understanding of DecisionNext software and lead the development of new products to serve customer needs best.
- Monitor data quality and forecast performance and implement corrective actions as needed to minimize forecast error and bias
- Continuously improve methodologies and processes to enhance forecast accuracy
- Collaborate with other teams

- You excel at communicating complex ideas to business partners for data-driven decision making.
Things we are looking for:
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a quantitative field (Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, or similar).
- Experience explaining commodity market concepts to non-scientists.
- Demonstrable experience in statistical research.
- Familiar with time series modeling and forecasting methodology.
- Background in Food & Agriculture or Mining & Natural Resources
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Python.
